Windows deleted-file recovery tool

XFileRecover

A read-only recovery scanner for local disks, external drives, USB drives, and memory cards. XFileRecover searches file-system metadata, deleted directory entries, Recycle Bin clues, and file signatures to help estimate recovery chances after accidental deletion, Recycle Bin cleanup, or quick format.

Free to scan and preview — see exactly which files can come back before you pay anything.

Built for accidental deletion recovery

XFileRecover is designed to reduce write risk on the source volume. It reads volume information and file-system structures first, then drills into deleted records, residual metadata, and file signatures in unallocated space. Candidates are grouped by type and marked with recovery quality and risk.

Read-only scanningThe source volume is treated as read-only, and recovered files must be saved to another disk to reduce overwrite risk.
Deleted-candidate focusThe result list focuses on deleted or suspected-deleted files so active files do not bury the real target.
Background jobsScans run in the background, show step-by-step progress in the status bar, and can be stopped during long runs.
Content previewReadable text, images, and hex snippets can be previewed before recovery.

Scan Sources

File-system metadata

Parses structured metadata such as NTFS MFT records, FAT/exFAT directory entries, and ext deleted-directory markers to retain names, paths, sizes, and timestamps when possible.

Residual records

When deleted records are released or a partition is reformatted, residual MFT records and directory fragments are scanned for recognizable clues.

File signatures

Identifies file headers and footers in unallocated areas to find images, documents, archives, videos, and other content whose path or name was lost.

Supported Recovery Paths

Different file systems preserve different amounts of recoverable information. When metadata remains, names, directories, and timestamps are usually more complete; signature-only recovery often produces numbered files by type.

Common Windows file systems
  • NTFS: MFT, Recycle Bin, residual MFT, and bitmap-assisted checks.
  • FAT16/FAT32: deleted directory entries and cluster-chain clues.
  • exFAT: deleted directory entries and common media recovery.
Other file systems and signature recovery
  • ext3/ext4: deleted-directory markers and recognizable structures.
  • Common signatures for images, documents, archives, audio/video, code files, and more.
  • Deep scan can be attempted after formatting, but names and directories may be lost.

Recovery Workflow

Select a volumeChoose the target volume from local disks or readable removable devices. Network/virtual drives are excluded. The app shows file system, media type, and space usage.
Run staged scansRead volume structures and metadata first, then scan deleted records, residual structures, and file signatures. Each stage has its own progress.
Preview and recoverCheck quality marks, path, size, timestamps, and preview content, then save recovered output to a non-source volume.
After accidental deletion, stop writing new data to the source volume as soon as possible. Installing software, downloading files, or copying data may overwrite the deleted file space and reduce recovery chances.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it free to try?

Yes. Download, scan, and preview recoverable files completely free. A license is only needed to save recovered files.

What can it recover?

Files lost to accidental deletion, Recycle Bin cleanup, or quick format on NTFS, FAT16/32, exFAT and ext3/ext4 volumes — local disks, USB drives, and memory cards.

How do payments work?

Checkout is handled by FastSpring, our authorized reseller, with card or PayPal. Prices are in USD and any local tax is calculated at checkout.

What if it doesn't work for me?

Every purchase comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee — email support@xfr.xia08.com and we will refund you. See the Refund Policy for details.

How does the license work?

Your license is linked to your email account. Sign in with that email in the desktop app on the computer where you recover files.

Can it recover from an SSD?

Sometimes. TRIM on SSDs erases deleted data quickly, so scan as soon as possible. External SSDs/USB sticks are usually more recoverable than system drives.
